The Power of Choice: Electricity Service
As we approach the end of the first decade of the new millennium, we enter a new age of civilized man. Advancements in technology, mass environmental awareness, and rising cost of living has ushered in a new landscape throughout all facets of our society. One of the most drastically changing of these is our means of drawing energy. Electricity was the fire that fueled the previous millennium. In this new day of man, we seek more renewable resources, cleaner sources, and/or reliable sources of energy production. Diversity is the key to an electrical service that can balance the benefits and detriments of each source.
Solar energy is reemerging as one of the top alternative energy
prospects. Although it is still too costly to rely primarily on Solar Energy, solar panels are affordable when used in tandem with traditional electricity services. The price to be self-reliant on solar energy is too great. On a regional level, solar energy is more viable in certain climates due to the amount of sunshine necessary to create an adequate power supply. The price will continue to drop as the demand pushes further innovations in solar technology similar to the ideas that have finally made it both more durable and more affordable over the years.
Wind energy is not a feasible option for many people who live in urban areas as well as suburban families with small lot sizes. The noise it creates raises more problems for homeowners as well as neighbors affected by its process. Another real issue for private wind turbine ownership is quite simply the initial cost. As with solar energy wind energy too suffers from the variables of certain regions. Wind energy is more viable in certain climates due to the amount of wind necessary to create an adequate power supply. A state-of-the-art wind turbine is more costly than many of our homes are worth and therefore are unreasonable as a viable option for individuals. On the other side, many desolate landowners and farmers are planting hundreds of turbines on their land and selling clean energy to help green our electrical services.
Electrical service companies are using the evolving alternative energy sector in tandem with traditional methods of energy production to diversify its reliance on certain methods. With their ability to choose what percentage they rely on one method or another, the door is opened to more stable energy prices, a solution to limited resources, a lessened dependency on fossil fuels, and the ability to lower their carbon output. The diversification of energy sources is vital to our sustenance as a civilization as we forge ahead into the future.
The power that these energy companies can draw from alternative energy is beneficial to the electric service providers, as well as to the general public and their children. The more they turn to alternative energies to power our grid, the more affordable the technology will be for private homeowners. It will also be a catalyst for further evolution as the research and development will increase as demand increases, developing cheaper methods, longer shelf life, and less intrusive designs. Future generations stand the most to gain by responsible innovation in the electric service sector.
